BIOGRAPHY 2010

Taking Australian metal to uncharted territory. A calculated yet grooving sound derived from a vast array of influences and genres. Delivering a message and mentality that’s relevant now. This is UNDER THE INFLUENCE, Perth, Western Australia (WA).

Under The Influence (U.T.I) is the brainchild of Perth based musicians Robbie Lumsden and Saxon Smith. Since 2005 this partnership has self-produced no less than 3 full-length albums, with the third to be released nationally on February 6th 2010 through Firestarter music.

Smith and Lumsden entered the studio early January 2006 to record their first body of work, titled U.T.I “I”. Thirteen tracks were cut at Underground Studios, Perth, WA. The album was independently released in WA, March 06. The release was followed by a string of WA shows, establishing U.T.I in the WA scene and their reputation as a band of accomplished musicians.

Not the sort of band to rest on past work, U.T.I entered the studio once again in April 2007 to record their second full-length album titled U.T.I “II”. Released independently in WA April 2008, U.T.I “II” received critical acclaim from Australian Guitar Magazine, stating, “II is another world-class effort from an outfit that hopefully won’t remain WA’s best-kept secret for much longer.” U.T.I launched “II” with an extensive WA promo campaign throughout March, April and May 2008, which included a live film clip for the track, “So Cold”.

In December 2008, U.T.I hit the studio to begin recording their third album titled, “The Brutal Harsh Honest Truth”. Tracking was completed in June 2009. Bass player Chad Mcshane exited the band shortly thereafter to be replaced by Gareth Hughes. “The Brutal Harsh Honest Truth” will be released nationally on Friday 6th February 2010 through Firestarter music – www.firestartermusic.net.au

A Single has been released from “The Brutal Harsh Honest Truth”, entitled “ The Age Of Complacency”, and is now available at all live shows.

An Australian tour is in the works to support “The Brutal Harsh Honest Truth”.
